Do recipients need to give consent or interact to allow tracking?

No interaction or personal data entry is required for tracking.
When a recipient opens or uses a MARC, they automatically agree to passive data collection, similar to opening a website or scanning a QR code.

Every MARC includes a small Privacy Notice Sticker (also called the Hello Sticker) that clearly states:

“By opening and interacting with this device, you agree to our collection of information as described in our Privacy Policy.”

It also includes a QR code and directs users to: marcmedia.io/privacy

This notice provides transparent, up-front disclosure that basic engagement data will be collected.

What type of consent is this?

This is called implied consent, meaning the recipient agrees by using the device, without needing to submit forms or manually accept pop-ups.

  • No login, sign-up, or personal details required
  • No contact data (name, email, phone) is collected
  • No individual is identified, only the device (Marc ID)
  • Anonymous, device-based engagement tracking only

What kind of data is collected?

MARC only tracks device-based interactions. Examples include:

Number of times opened, viewing duration, video engagement, date and time of use, general location (based on cellular tower), Marc ID and campaign name

No personal identity, names, emails, or home addresses are captured.
